Leadership in Business Management

Business Goals and Leadership in Business Management

True leadership is more powerful than anything else as an aid to the achievement of business goals. It’s people that make a business what it is for better or for worse and effective leaders invest in the right people, whilst removing those whose contribution is either insufficient or detrimental. This may sound harsh but is it really?

Attitude & Ability – Leadership in Business Management Principle #1

It’s a combination of attitude and ability that determine the value of a person’s contribution within a given environment. Most people make a net contribution by taking away less from a business than they contribute to it. Some however do the reverse and effective leaders will address this to prevent a negative impact on others.

Firm but Fair – Leadership in Business Management Principle #2

Good leaders are firm but fair in putting overall business goals first in their dealings with their people. They lead and empower those that earn the right through their good attitude and ability, however they manage and closely monitor those that don’t, even to the extent of managing some out of the business entirely.

Communicate Well – Leadership in Business Management Principle #3

A compelling vision and strategy is of little use until and unless clearly communicated to those expected to contribute to the achievement of the related business goals. Poor communication is one of the most common failings of management and this relates to everyday matters as well. Effective leaders make communication a top priority.
